From Touring Stages to Crafting Instruments
When you hear the soul of an AV Box Cajon, you’re not just hearing wood and snare—you’re hearing a story. A story that begins with Andries Visser, one of South Africa’s most respected drummers, whose rhythms have echoed across the USA, Europe, UK, China, and beyond.
He’s toured alongside musical giants like Riana Nel, Louis Brittz, Retief Burger, and even the Soweto String Quartet. His resume includes over 300 studio album recordings, and yet, his purpose goes far beyond performance.
“Drumming isn’t just rhythm. It’s a conversation, a connection. That’s what I want every AV Box to represent.” – Andries Visser
A Mentor Beyond the Stage
Andries isn’t only a performer—he’s a teacher, a mentor, and a visionary in music education. In 2003, he founded Groove Regulators SA, a full-time drum training institution that’s since mentored over 800 students.
His programs ran across Johannesburg and Jeffrey’s Bay, helping shape the next generation of professional drummers with an emphasis on technical mastery, musical feel, and expressive freedom.

Many of his students have gone on to launch careers in music, education, and performance—all influenced by Andries’ unique approach to rhythm and discipline.

The Birth of the AV Box Cajon
In 2017, after years of drumming, teaching, and recording, Andries shifted gears—applying his insights into a new venture: building handcrafted cajons.
His goal was clear: to create a cajon that feels as good to play as it sounds. With that, the AV Box T-Top Cajon was born.
Handmade in Roodepoort, South Africa, the T-Top was designed to fix common frustrations faced by percussionists:
- Portability without sacrificing tone
- Ergonomics for comfortable sitting during long sessions
- Versatile snare tone with crisp highs and rich lows
- Optional built-in microphone for seamless stage use
Every cajon is hand-checked and signed off by Andries himself—ensuring it meets the highest standards of craftsmanship and tone.
The T-Top on Tour
Andries regularly features the T-Top Cajon in his live shows, whether on big stages or intimate acoustic sets. Its responsive dynamics, tonal range, and design make it an essential tool in his kit.
Whether you’re playing worship sets, jazz gigs, folk jams, or unplugged rock sessions—the T-Top adapts and performs with power and clarity.
